convention-1410870The ability to effectively speak or present in front of a group is a highly valuable skill to possess. However, many individuals find public speaking intimidating and anxiety provoking. Moreover, public speaking is commonly cited as the number one fear of individuals. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld speaks to this fear as seen by his following quote, “According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

Public speaking takes many forms. Oftentimes people think of more formal settings such as giving a presentation or speech. Other common situations that require public speaking abilities include telling a story to other individuals or speaking up in class or at a business meeting. Being able to speak in a compelling and captivating manner has positive social and professional advantages.

The aim of the group is to increase your confidence and ability to speak in front of an audience. To accomplish this goal, the group is skills-based and interactive in nature.
