My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is integrative in nature, as I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Person-Centered therapy. Normalizing and validating clients’ experiences, while also collaboratively working with clients to help them make values-based changes is a core component of the therapy. In addition, exposures are one technique that I utilize to help clients work toward their goals. For couple’s therapy, it is essential to truly hear and integrate both people’s perspectives into the work. In addition, practicing new communication patterns during the session, and as part of homework between sessions, is an important part of the work.

My Education and Training

I am a license-eligible Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC). My master’s level internship was completed at North Carolina State University’s counseling center, where I provided individual therapy, group therapy, couples counseling and triage counseling. I also previously worked as a counselor at Duke University’s Talent Identification Program and provided individual therapy for students who were predominately seeking therapy for anxiety, perfectionism, and/or interpersonal struggles. In Massachusetts, I worked at Cambridge Eating Disorder Clinic’s residential and outpatient settings. The primary diagnosis of the clients was an eating disorder; however, many of the clients also struggled with anxiety and OCD.

I received my master’s in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina Central University, and bachelors in psychology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. For a more in-depth look at my clinical experiences please refer to my curriculum vitae.

My Areas of Specialty

My area of expertise is working with individuals who struggle with their relationship to their bodies and food. Having worked at Cambridge Eating Disorder Clinic’s residential facility, I am comfortable working with individuals at various stages in their recovery process. In addition, I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with perfectionism. I also have significant experience conducting couples therapy, in both an individual and group setting.
