Lynne Gallagher, LICSW
Licensed Independent Clinical Social WorkerVersion 9

My Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is ever evolving and client-centered, adapting to best meet the needs of those I work with. I take a trauma-informed approach in my practice, working to reframe the question of “what is wrong?” to “what happened?”. I believe we all have a story to tell and that our story is worth honoring. The therapeutic process is one that cannot happen without relationship; therefore, I believe in treating others with respect. I place high value on the building of trust and openness within the therapeutic process. As humans, we are all connected to systems; I believe in a collaborative and community-based approach to treatment.

I am trained in Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Psychoeducation, mindfulness practice, skill building, and narrative work are some of the concepts utilized in my practice.

My Education and Training

I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (License No.:120631 State: MA) and have also earned my initial teacher license in elementary education (License No.: 445421 State: MA). In my training, I completed two social work internships. My first internship was at Lowell Adult Day Treatment (LADT), which is an intensive out-patient day treatment program designed to help adults with persistent mental illness lead more stable and successful lives. In this role, I ran a range of groups and provided individual therapy to clients. My second internship was at the Northeast Behavioral Health Adolescent Program, a residential facility for adolescent boys dealing with substance use. Here I served as an individual therapist, group therapist, and family therapist.

I received my masters in clinical social work from Simmons College and bachelors with a concentration in elementary education from Endicott College. For a more in-depth look at my clinical experiences please refer to my curriculum vitae.

My Areas of Specialty

My background is working with individuals and families who have experienced traumatic life events. In my work, I have utilized different modalities including the Trauma Systems Therapy model, both as a therapist and a clinical supervisor. My experience has taught me about the resilience of humanity, the power of hope, and the importance of empowering others in their own process.

In addition to individual therapy, I am a strong believer in the power and value of group therapy. Previously, I facilitated groups on the following topics: social skills, depression, self-esteem, managing emotions, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. I am pleased to join Clearview Horizons as the group therapist for the Social Anxiety Group. Through a collaborative, supportive, and skills-based approach, my goal is to help group members gain the skills and confidence to engage in a range of social and interpersonal situations and cultivate the social connections they want and deserve.

I also have experience working with the LGBTQ population. As the co-leader of the National Association of Social Workers-Westchester LGBTQ subcommittee, I helped to develop the training “Interacting with Transgender Clients” for mental health professionals. Additionally, I served as an active member of the LGBTQ Steering Committee with the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services in New York City.
