My Therapeutic Approach

I believe in RECOVERY and want to help you work through areas of your life that are holding you back from achieving your goals. In order for therapy to be effective it is important to create a safe space where you feel comfortable to talk and explore your feelings. I will work hard to ensure safety and trust, and value your feedback throughout the therapy process. When beginning therapy, the initial session will help me evaluate what your specific needs are for therapy. Together, we can discuss obstacles you are working through and find supportive ways to integrate coping skills into your daily living. Each person is different and not one type of therapy will help everyone. I am committed to finding what works for you, through the collaborative exploration of CBT, Exposures, ACT, DBT, and Gentle Reprocessing.

My Education and Training

I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (License No. and State: 116604 Massachusetts) practicing in Andover, Massachusetts. During my graduate school training, I completed two social work internships. My first internship was at The Lawrence Public Schools – School of Exceptional Studies, where I worked with the sixth-grade students and their families, school personnel and outpatient providers to provide integrative and comprehensive care. My second internship was at the Center for Family Development, where my responsibilities included conducting psychological assessments and providing individual therapy to clients who were seeking treatment for a range of reasons including disordered eating, anxiety, and mood disorders.

I earned my masters in clinical social work from Boston University and my bachelors in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Additionally, Dr. James Greenblat, a leader in the eating disorder field and current Chief Medical Officer at Walden Behavioral Care, who authored the books, Answers to Binge Eating and Finally Focused served as my prior mentor. Moreover, I have assisted Dr. Greenblatt with clinical presentations for professional development in both the United States and Canada. For a more in-depth look at my clinical experiences please refer to my curriculum vitae.

My Areas of Specialty

I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with an eating disorder. Having previously worked at Walden Behavioral Care in the inpatient, residential, and outpatient eating disorder programs, I have significant experience working with clients who require intensive treatment in order reach their goals of having a healthier physical and emotional relationship to their body and food. In addition, during my prior role as Director of Clinical Services at Comprehensive Psychiatric Resources I developed and implemented an eating disorder protocol for an outpatient treatment team environment. I also provided individual, couples, family and group therapy for clients struggling with eating disorders.

In addition to my clinical work, I previously served as the Director of Education & Outreach (August 2008-September 2010) for the Multi-service Eating Disorders Association (MEDA). While at MEDA I spent the majority of my time giving clinical and educational presentations at New England area colleges, universities, public and private schools. The presentations focused on how to identify an eating disorder and what actions to take if you suspected either yourself or a friend were struggling with an eating disorders. Additionally, I taught the Teaching Body Confidence curriculum at Beaver Country Day School. Currently, I present at Boston University twice a year, where I teach graduate students about eating disorders and treatment through a personal perspective.

Another area of specialty is within mindfulness, meditation and yoga. I completed my Registered Yoga Teacher training through the Fluid School of Yoga. Through this teacher training I have learned the importance of a daily meditation practice and the practice of self acceptance. As a yoga instructor, I teach yoga classes that integrate the principles and techniques of mindfulness and meditation into accessible postures. Often in sessions I work with clients on breathe work and simple postures to improve mobility and decrease anxiety. I currently teach at Mindful Body Yoga in Andover, MA and Sutra Studio in Lowell, MA.
